The Oscar-Niemeyer-Haus is a residential tower block with eight floors and 78 apartments on Altonaer Straße in Berlin’s Hansa quarter. It was designed by Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida Niemeyer Soares Filho (Oscar Niemeyer) on the occasion of the first International Building Exhibition (IBA 1957).
The Oscar Niemeyer House is one of the 35 realized objects of the IBA in 1957. The involved architects were exclusively representatives of the new building committed direction. This includes e.g. also the Haus der Kulturen der Welt of Hugh Stubbins.
Based almost exclusively on concrete as a building material, the Oscar Niemeyer house is 70 meters long, 14 meters wide and 27 meters high. About seven meters behind the building is a triangular lift tower for two elevators, but hold only on the 5th and 8th floor. With the elevator or via the staircase leads to the 5th Floor, which is also intended as a communal floor. On the top floor is the dry floor.
